432 participants from 8 nations at the start

Once again, the Brixner HILLclimb took place during the KitzAlpBike festival. And again attracted hundreds of mountain bikers. A total of 432 riders made their way to Hochbrixen at 18:30 on Wednesday, 20 June 2018. It is "only" 5.5 miles, yet with a 600 meters altitude gain. The weather was glorious however, with temperatures up to 30 ° C, it demanded a lot from the riders . This year's best time: 18 minutes, 18 seconds. Anyone who has ever tried to ride this route by car will find it difficult to match this time! - A really powerful performance!

Favorites at the forefront!

The field of participants was, as every year, top-class. The reigning marathon champion and World Championship bronze medal winner Daniel Geismayr from Vorarlberg triumphed this year. He prevailed against a strong field in just 18 minutes and 18 seconds before his pursuers and narrowly missed the course record over. Second place went to the Finn Toni Thäti, who beat the German Thomas coach coming in third place. Local hero and last year's winner Max Foidl finished fourth.

The ladies event was just as exciting

The fastest climber this year was Anna Terpstra from the Netherlands - even though she took part in a mountain sprint for the first time.She commented, "I have never kicked as many watts as today." In second place came the record winner of the Windautaler Radlrallye Manuela Hartl from Germany. Local hero and World Cup rider Lisi Osl from Kirchberg finished third.

The HILLclimb as a crowd magnet

One of the huge attractions of Austria's most popular mountain sprint is the atmosphere on the sidelines. Hundreds of spectators cheer along the way.
Around 1,000 enthusiastic cycling fans regularly compete for the best spot to watche the race and provide an awesome backdrop for the drivers - all in the middle of the week at 18:30.
For mountain bikers, the HILLclimb in Brixen im Thale is always a seasonal highlight. This unique race attracts amateur riders, local heroes, world
champions, Olympians and the every day amateur athlete - that's the Brixen mountain sprint.
